Custom multi-field check-ins: log more than a checkmark

A checkbox tells you that something happened. It can't tell you how it went. In Something Matters, every habit or task logs a check-in, and you decide which fields each check-in records — so a tracker built for someone else's habit never forces your habit into its format.

Choose the fields that fit each habit

Attach any mix of custom fields to a habit, and every check-in collects them:

  • Sliders for anything on a scale — mood, energy, soreness, focus.
  • Numbers for durations, counts, doses, distances, or amounts.
  • Multi-select options for context like where you were, who you were with, or which variation you did.
  • Notes for the details no structured field can capture.

Some tasks still just need a single tap — that works too. Fields are per-habit, so “take vitamins” can stay a one-tap check-in while “evening run” records distance, effort, and route.

Example: tracking naps properly

A yes/no habit tracker can only say “napped today.” A custom check-in can record the duration as a number, grogginess on a slider, and where you slept as a multi-select. After a few weeks you're not looking at a streak — you're looking at your own data, like which nap lengths leave you groggy and which leave you sharp.

Built for quantified-self tracking

Because check-ins are structured data rather than ticked boxes, your history becomes a personal dataset: trends over time for every field you track, private by default. Pair it with rolling-interval scheduling and you get a tracker that matches both your rhythm and your level of detail.
