What information do we collect?

Information you give us:

  • Account information: Your email address, name, username, password, and profile photo (if you add one)
  • Self-tracking data: Your daily check-ins, the metrics and events ("Matters") you track, metric values, duration logs, and completion history
  • Group data: Groups you join or create, your activity in groups, and content you share with group members

Information we collect automatically:

  • Usage information: How you use Something Matters (which features you use, when you check in, etc.)
  • Device information: Your browser type, device type, operating system, and IP address
  • Analytics data: We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the app so we can improve it

Information from third parties:

When you sign in with Google or Kakao, we receive basic profile information from them (like your name, email address, and profile photo).

Information from device permissions:

With your permission, we may access:

  • Notifications: To send you reminders and group activity updates
  • Health data: To integrate with Apple Health (future feature)

How do we use your information?

We use your information to:

  • Provide the service: Create your account, track your metrics and events, show your progress, connect you with groups
  • Enable group accountability: Share your check-ins and progress with your group members
  • Send you updates: Reminders to check in, notifications about group activity, progress milestones, and occasional feature updates
  • Improve Something Matters: Understand how people use the app and make it better
  • Keep things secure: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security issues
  • Communicate with you: Send you password resets, account updates, and occasional promotional emails (you can unsubscribe)
  • Comply with laws: Meet our legal obligations

Who can see your data?

Within your groups:

  • Group members can see your check-ins and shared progress within shared groups
  • Group admins have the same visibility as regular members (they don't have special access to your data)
  • Public groups: Only members can see group activity—non-members cannot view public group content
  • Private groups: Only invited members can see anything

Third-party services we use:

We share your information with trusted service providers who help us run Something Matters:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication
  • Google Cloud Platform: Cloud infrastructure and hosting
  • Google Analytics: Usage analytics
  • Push notification services: To send you reminders and updates (Firebase Cloud Messaging, Apple Push Notification Service)

These companies are contractually required to protect your data and can only use it to provide services to us.

We do NOT:

  • Sell your data to anyone
  • Show you ads based on your self-tracking data
  • Share your personal information for marketing purposes with other companies
  • Share your self-tracking data outside of the groups you choose to join

How long do we keep your data?

While your account is active:

We keep your data as long as you have an account with us.

After you delete your account:

  • We delete your personal information and recorded data within 30 days
  • Some information may remain in backup systems for up to 30 days after deletion
  • We keep anonymized and aggregated data (that can't identify you) indefinitely for analytics and improving the service
  • Public and shared groups will not be deleted until all members have left. Ownership will be transferred to another member.

When you leave a group:

  • Shared check-ins recorded in groups may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve group statistics and history for other members.
  • Group admins may retain historical group data even after you leave

Legal requirements:

We may keep some data longer if required by law.

Your rights and choices

You have the right to:

  • Access your data: Contact us to request information about what data we have about you
  • Correct your data: Update your profile information in account settings
  • Delete your data: Delete individual check-ins or your entire account

  • Opt out of marketing emails: Unsubscribe from promotional emails (you'll still get important account-related emails)
  • Manage notifications: Control push notification preferences in your device settings
  • Delete your account: Remove your account and data entirely

How to exercise your rights:

We respond to deletion requests immediately, and your data is removed from active systems quickly (see data retention section above for backup details).

Note: We currently don't offer a self-service data export feature. If you need a copy of your data, contact us at info@tokimono.studio and we'll work with you.

How we protect your data

We take security seriously and use industry-standard measures to protect your information:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure password storage (hashed and salted)
  • Regular security updates
  • Access controls and authentication
  • Secure cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform, Supabase)
